Celtic signed Dariusz (Jackie) Dziekanowski for £600,000 and Paul Elliott from Bari for £500,000. Dariusz Dziekanowski ended the season as Celtic's top scorer with 16 goals. Mo Johnston was reported as being about to re-sign for Celtic at the end of the previous season but eventually signed for Graeme Souness at Rangers. Johnston was fined £3,500 by FIFA for unsporting behaviour.
